What is a home EV charging station?+
A home EV charging station is a dedicated wall-mounted charger installed at your property — also called a Level 2 home charger, EV wall box or EV wall charger. A home charging station typically delivers 7kW to 22kW of power — enough to fully charge most EVs overnight. It requires a dedicated circuit from your switchboard, a Type A RCBO and an isolation switch, all installed by a licensed electrician. A home EV charging station replaces the portable granny charger included with most EVs and is the standard home charging setup across Brisbane.
Do I need a switchboard upgrade to install an EV charger?+
Not always. Most EV chargers require a dedicated 32A circuit. If your switchboard is reasonably modern with spare capacity and safety switches already fitted, no upgrade is needed. If your board is older or full, we'll include the switchboard work in the same quote and complete it in one visit — so you're not calling two separate tradespeople.
Can I charge my EV from solar panels?+
Yes. Smart chargers like the Zappi by myenergi are specifically designed to divert surplus solar energy into your EV, meaning you charge for free during the day. This is one of the most popular setups we install across Brisbane. The Zappi connects to your solar inverter and automatically prioritises solar before drawing from the grid.
What's the difference between single-phase and three-phase EV charging?+
Single-phase delivers up to 7.4kW — roughly 40km of range per hour of charging. Three-phase delivers up to 22kW — roughly 120km per hour. Most Brisbane homes have single-phase power, which is perfectly adequate for overnight charging. Three-phase is available in some newer estates and is worth considering if you have a long-range EV or need to charge quickly during the day.
How long does the installation take?+
Most residential EV charger installations take 2–4 hours. If switchboard work is also required, allow 4–6 hours. We stock all common charger brands and components on our vans and aim to complete the full job in a single visit.
