Type 2 (IEC 62196) is the Australian and European standard EV connector — used by virtually every non-Tesla EV sold in Australia today, and by Tesla via a supplied adapter. Whether you need a 7kW single-phase or a 22kW 3-phase unit, a Type 2 wall charger is the correct permanent charging solution for your home. QLD licensed, upfront fixed pricing.

Type 2 refers to the IEC 62196-2 connector standard — the seven-pin plug used for AC charging on all modern EVs in Australia and Europe. It replaced the older Type 1 (J1772) five-pin connector that was common on earlier Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV models.
Type 2 chargers operate at 7kW on a single-phase supply or up to 22kW on 3-phase, depending on your property and your vehicle's onboard charger. Both tethered units (cable built into the charger) and untethered units (you plug in your own cable) are available. We supply and install Type 2 chargers from all major brands across Brisbane.
Key points
Our technicians carry a wide range of spare parts and fix most faults on the spot.
Your included portable 'granny flat' charger plugs into a standard 10A point and delivers 2.4kW — around 10–15km of range per hour. A Type 2 wall charger at 7kW adds 40–50km per hour.
If your EV came with a Type 1 (J1772) cable, your charging options are limited. Newer Type 2 chargers are more widely compatible, and many EV owners upgrade to a Type 2 unit when replacing their charger.
Portable chargers run on shared household circuits, causing safety switches to trip when other appliances are used simultaneously. A dedicated Type 2 circuit eliminates this problem.
Without a smart Type 2 charger you can't schedule charging to run during off-peak tariff windows. Smart Type 2 units let you set start times, monitor usage and control the charger via app.
Extension leads and portable chargers aren't designed for permanent outdoor use. A wall-mounted Type 2 charger rated IP44 or IP54 handles Queensland's weather year-round.
Adding a 7kW EV charger requires spare switchboard capacity. We assess your switchboard during the quote and advise whether an upgrade is needed before you commit.
Type 2 works with every major EV brand sold in Australia — Hyundai, Kia, BMW, Mercedes, MG, BYD, Polestar, Rivian, Volkswagen, Audi, and more.
A 7kW single-phase Type 2 charger adds 40–50km of range per hour — enough to restore a full charge overnight for the majority of EV owners.
If your property has 3-phase power and your EV supports it, Type 2 scales up to 22kW — adding up to 120km of range per hour without changing the connector standard.
Choose a tethered unit with a built-in cable for convenience, or an untethered socket for a cleaner wall mount when you always use your own cable.
IP44 and IP54 rated units handle rain, humidity and UV year-round — suitable for driveways, garages, carports and outdoor wall mounts across Brisbane.
Type 2 is the long-term Australian and European standard. Installing a Type 2 charger now means your home charging solution will be compatible with future EVs.

We supply and install your Type 2 wall charger — tethered or untethered, 7kW or 22kW. Fixed price confirmed before work begins.
A new circuit is run from your switchboard directly to the charger, correctly sized for the charger's output and protected by a dedicated breaker.
A Type A RCBO is installed on the EV charger circuit, providing both overcurrent and residual current protection as required by Australian wiring standards.
Standard installations include up to 15 metres of cable from switchboard to charger location. Additional cable runs are quoted separately.
A lockable isolation switch is installed adjacent to the charger for safe de-energisation during servicing or in an emergency.
A Certificate of Test (Form 4) is issued on completion, providing documentation for your insurance records and future electrical inspections.
